We have had a busy & exciting week here at the Gaffney household!
Our built-in's are pretty much built. There are some detail pieces that need to be figured out before painting/ staining these items. The tile guy started the prep for the master bath and should be working all weekend on the floor & wall tile in that area. Our pantry is stocked and loaded - I am waiting to put the fronts on until the painter gets to the surrounding area. I also finished laying out the area rug. It is made up of plank carpet tiles, so I had to layout my pattern, cut/ trim some of the edge pieces and use a gluelessTac Tile system to hold all of the pieces together. It is a small square, that is sticky on one side and you use it at the seams and intersections of the tiles to hold them together. They are smooth plastic on the side facing the floor, so that they literally 'float' off the floor. They work great, no mess or adhesives - nothing that is bad for the earth.
Tomorrow, the sectional, table and shelving for the new family room will be delivered as well as some new furniture for our current living room!
Most importantly, the best thing that happened this past week is that Robin's sister, Katie and her husband, had their first baby! She had a little girl named Molly - she is beautiful and my kids are THRILLED to have a new cousin!!!

Ok, so I have been slacking and need to get everyone up to date on what is going on in the addition...
Our existing & new floors on the 1st floor were sanded and finished a little over a week ago. Grandma Kaye was kind enough to let us stay with her for the whole week and we moved back in on Saturday and were able to open the windows and air out some of the fumes because we were lucky enough to have a warm day! The floors look great!
Unfortunately for the floors, our built-in's are now being built on site & there is sawdust everywhere! We have paper on the floors to protect them, but the dust is just a given :(. The good news is that our built-in's are being built, which is exciting for me!!!
Pocket doors went in the Master Bath last week as well - we are still waiting on the full frosted glass pocket doors for our master closet...can't wait til I can get everything in and start using it - this could possibly be my favorite part of the new addition!!!
Last, but certainly not least, Robin's monster TV was installed on Friday! He sat and stared at the black screen Friday night for at least an hour (even though it wasn't working yet!).
I kept very busy over the weekend, putting together our new pantry cabinets from Ikea. Since we are not redoing our entire kitchen at this point, this is an area where we needed to make a transition, so this was a good solution for us! This kept me busy most of the weekend. Hopefully, I can get moving on putting the closet shelving in later this week.
Also this week, painters should be finishing up, and porcelain tile should start being installed in the master bath. Getting closer!!!

Getting closer to the end! We have hardwood flooring down on the 1st floor and are waiting to have the entire floor (existing and new) finished to match the existing in January, so we can enjoy our holiday & have a Christmas tree, etc. We may be calling on Grandma Kaye for a couple of days in January when we need to have the first floor entirely cleared out!
Plumbing is being roughed in for fixture locations at tub, etc. Back deck is being patched up and extended to our outbuilding, although it will still remain very small for the time being. (that may be a project for next year:). We also have lights that work!!! That is exciting since it is typically dark when Robin gets home & we really can't see the progress very well with our flashlights!
The tree is up in a new/ temporary spot and the kids don't seem to be missing a beat...it's all part of the adventure!!!

Drywall taping, sanding, etc. finished this week and first coat of paint is on! It finally feels like there will be an end date in the near future...of course, then I have to find something else to occupy my time!!! Anyway, it's nice to see things coming together.
We also have had the trim guy come out and he will match the trim we currently have, install new/ better doors. The carpet and hardwood is on order as well as lots of furniture, rugs, etc. that I am excited to have in place sometime between middle to end of January. We are waiting to refinish the existing hardwood floors until after Christmas, so that we can put up a tree before 12/20 and let the kids enjoy Christmas and all of the 'stuff' that comes with it.

Drywall almost done! Well, everything has that lovely coat of dust on it AGAIN, but I am not going to complain, because we are that much closer to being done!!! The guys tore out our temporary corner from the kitchen to the new family room today...yeahh! Plastic is up to keep out some of the dirt & dust and afford a small amount of privacy, but by the end of next week or beginning of the following, we will hopefully be painting...well, not 'we' as in 'me', but some other nice person that will do that for me! Skim coating the walls, etc. may go thru next Tues/ Wed., then painting, then new wood floor & trim work, etc. Will keep you posted on what's next.
