Foundation walls revealed!!! Yesterday, they poured the foundation walls & today they took the forms away...voila, we have a foundation! It's beautiful to see a new foundation w/ no cracks. Let's hope it stays that way...with all of our trees, etc. it may not happen, but here's to hoping! We have one more opening to add to our existing foundation through our existing laundry room and then they should be able to pour for the concrete floor in the basement next week. Have a great weekend & hope for the rain to hold off early next week!

Today the contractor added the pea gravel around the footers and as a base layer before starting on foundation and the concrete floor slab for the basement. They also did some clean up work and cut an opening in our existing foundation wall to connect the existing basement to what will be the new (if you see a plywood panel in the image of the foundation wall from the outside, that's what you're looking at!) They will start on foundation tomorrow!!!

The contractors poured footers today!!! We got used to seeing the overall hole in the ground looking so big that it took a minute to adjust to the footers being inset from the 'mud walls' about 3'-0". They need this room to work and build the foundation walls, which should happen over the next couple of days. No rain in the forecast, which is good!!!

Today the contractors finished digging out the hole for the addition and grading the surface where the basement will go. At the last minute, they had to quickly shift gears and cover everything with plastic because we were expecting rain! They protected the new 'mud walls' and put in a temporary sump pump to divert any water that may accumulate.
Luckily, it only rained for a couple of hours and while steady, was not a major downpour...yeah us!!! We will be ready for footers & foundation next week!

What a big day in the Gaffney household! Not only is it the first day of school for our kids, it is also the first day of construction on our new addition to our house. We are excited to finally start after waiting 5 years to do this!!!
We woke up this morning and got the kids ready for school and while eating breakfast started to hear voices & rumbling outside. Low & behold, this was the arrival of the workmen and the bulldozer starting up to dig out our side yard!
